Dogs and Maxilin - Shared Results

Hunter is a Manchester Terrier, which is a small black and tan ratting dog. They are very rare and on the vulnerable breed list in the UK. In March he wasn't himself.

He went to see the vet on 6th March 2026 which was to get me some reassurance that he was just getting old at eleven and a half years. He was always fit, healthy, full of energy with a shiny jet black coat so I just thought ages was creeping up on him. He was tested for pancreatitis.

I asked for full blood panel too, which I always do if he has not had bloods done within 12 months. The bloods were horrific! Liver ALP over 2000 (max 212), ALT 639 (max 125), Reticulocytes 150 (max 110).

White blood cells were dangerously low, as were red blood cells and platelets. Medication started for his gall bladder and on a follow up visit the blood results were worse. Pancytopenia was diagnosed.

All things pointed to cushings disease but test results came back negative so it was thought he had leukaemia but after having bone marrow taken from his shoulder, he didn't have that either. Internal bleeding was questioned but there were no signs of it on a scan and x-ray. After taking a protein creatinine urine test at the end of May, I started him on Maxilin.

He is no longer anaemic, no longer has high cholesterol, platelets are better, as are white blood cells and red blood cells. Inflammation is down from 30.8 to 24.

5 which is good

5 which is good. It needs to been under 10 ideally but we are heading in the right direction. Most of the other blood levels are much better, there are too many to list!

He seems happier with more energy and is now 12! He is enjoying walks again and no longer stopping and looking at me with sad eyes. He is back to being very naughty!
