Maxilin and L-Arginine: The “Mama and Papa” of EnergyMax

Within the EnergyMax philosophy, Maxilin and L-Arginine are affectionately known as the “Mama and Papa” of the EnergyMax family.

Why?

Because they represent two very different, yet complementary, aspects of the body's biology: the gut and its internal environment on one side, and the nitric-oxide and circulation pathway on the other.

The analogy is simple:

The gut is much more than simply a digestive system.

L-Arginine is an amino acid that serves as a substrate for nitric-oxide synthase, the enzyme responsible for producing nitric oxide (NO).

And nitric oxide is a remarkable molecule.

In 1998, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded jointly to Robert F. Furchgott, Louis J. Ignarro and Ferid Murad for their discoveries concerning “nitric oxide as a signalling molecule in the cardiovascular system.”

The discovery transformed our understanding of how the body regulates blood vessels.

Nitric oxide acts as a signalling molecule and is involved in the regulation of blood-vessel tone, blood flow and blood pressure. The Nobel Prize committee described NO as a gas that transmits signals within the body—a remarkable biological discovery.

That makes the story of L-Arginine particularly fascinating.

L-Arginine → nitric-oxide synthase → nitric oxide

In simple terms, L-Arginine provides one of the key substrates used in the body's natural nitric-oxide pathway.

So, if Maxilin is Mama, nurturing the internal environment, L-Arginine is Papa, associated with the body's circulation and signalling system.


The Importance of Ageing

There is another reason this story becomes particularly interesting as we get older.

The body does not simply stop producing nitric oxide with age

Rather, research indicates that nitric-oxide bioavailability and nitric-oxide-mediated vascular function can decline with ageing. Multiple factors can contribute, including changes in nitric-oxide synthase activity, oxidative stress and the availability of L-Arginine and other cofactors.

“As we get older, the body stops making nitric oxide.”

A more scientifically accurate statement is:
